Automated Financial Reporting Workbook
Connecting the General Ledger, Trial Balance, and financial statements through formulas and linked worksheets.
What I work on
I built and developed an Excel-based financial reporting workbook that connects the General Ledger, Trial Balance, and financial statements. The workbook is structured so account balances and reporting periods follow changes in the source data automatically.
Workflow
- Transaction / journal data
- General Ledger by account
- Account mapping
- Trial Balance
- Financial statement mapping
- Monthly reporting
- Balance & reconciliation check
Formula example from the workbook
This section shows formulas directly from the financial-reporting sheet. The focus is not on the amounts, but on the logic used to pull balances from the General Ledger, control reporting periods, and build reporting checks.

Logic & technical approach
SUMIFSto retrieve and aggregate balances by account and reporting criteria.EOMONTHto move reporting periods consistently across columns.SUMfor subtotals and account-group consolidation.IF/ANDfor control checks and balance indicators.- Linked worksheets to connect the GL, Trial Balance, and financial statements in one workbook.
Accounting controls
- Displayed balances must be traceable back to the General Ledger.
- Reporting periods must remain consistent across report columns.
- Account-group subtotals must equal the related sub-account balances.
- Trial Balance and balance checks must be reviewed before reports are used.
Outcome / value
This workflow makes monthly reporting more structured, reduces repetitive manual recap work, and keeps the General Ledger, Trial Balance, and financial statements connected.
